Meaningful Getaway

I tried to smile but I can't. I felt a heartache when we left the orphanage. I turned and saw the kids waving to us. They bid us goodbye, but I felt like they had something to say. Maybe they felt like we're one of those who just come and go. But no, I promise I will visit you guys again!

This is a really meaningful weekend getaway. I visited an orphanage in Batam, Indonesia, with my friends, XY and J. XY visited this orphanage with her school about a month or so ago. They scraped off the paint on the walls of the entire corridor and repainted it for them. How nice. ♥

This time, together with XY and J, we brought lots of candies, biscuits, bags, toys and etc for the kids. On top of that, we also donated rice and many used-but-in-good-condition clothes.

We should learn from these kids for how they share. They are never afraid of losing out or getting any lesser. They share everything they have. Even a stick of ice-cream. Unhygienic we may say, but it's the thoughts of sharing everything little thing they have that really moved me. They are unselfish.

I know that a visit or donation like this doesn't solve any problem for them. Once we leave, these orphans are still living in a really dirty and rundown place. A place that I can never imagine myself living in. Yet, this is the only place for them. A roof to shield them from the rain and the storm. A shelter that took them in, relieving them from hunger and thirst. A school for them to study and learn to help the other unfortunates. This is a place where the orphans call it their home.
